July 12, 1984. We will not be able to elect an
honorary Mr. Mom for several reasons. As Chairman of the Bored (Housewives),
however, I will make an appointment. You will remember that the requirements
for our Honorary Mr. Mom were (1) be a resident of Utah and fairly well-known,
(2) be married, (3) be willing to take over running the home on Sunday, July 29
and (4) be willing to encourage other husbands to do the same.
For those readers who may not have
read my previous few columns, we are trying to have a little fun during this
hot July weather and have the husbands take over for one whole day while the
woman of the house takes a breather. We have decided that July 29 is a good day
since that is one of the hottest days of the year.
And to help promote the project, an
honorary Mr. Mom seemed like a good idea. Due to circumstances beyond our
control, so they say in the media, an election became unfeasible, so an
appointment seemed like the next best thing.
So, for the announcement, may I have
a drum roll please. The Honorary Mr. Mom in Utah for July 29 is Danny Kramer of
KSL Radio.
As you may already know, Danny has
been interested in Mom’s Day Off. He has referred to it several times on his
afternoon radio program. I had the opportunity to talk to Danny a few days ago
at Broadcast House and was, once again, impressed with his interest in having a
little fun by encouraging husbands to take over running the house for one whole
day.
But the conversation was still not
the reason Danny was chosen to be our Honorary Mr. Mom. The main reason was, in
case you are wondering, this guy is genuinely interested in helping around the
house.
A few weeks ago, I asked for husbands
to write in and volunteer to participate in Mom’s Day Off. Several did, and
among those who wrote was none other than Danny Kramer. His letter read as
follows:
Brent:
Would it sound like boasting if I told you that the kids and
I do take over every Sunday in our home. We cook breakfast (cornflakes), lunch
(hot dogs), and dinner on the BBQ during the summer. We even use paper plates.
But they do tend to clog up the dishwasher.
Put us on your list.
Signed: Joshua, Tara, and Daddy Kramer
So, we welcome Danny as our Honorary
Mr. Mom for July 29. Tune in to Danny’s program on KSL Radio during the next
few days, and maybe he can gently nudge your husband into participating, if he
hasn’t already agreed to do so.
Not only is Danny a wiz in the
kitchen, but someone told me yesterday that he even irons his own shirts. Now
that is impressive (no pun intended). But the person who so informed me about
Danny’s ironing skills was not certain that the KSL personality irons the backs
of his shirts when he wears a suit or sport jacket. Maybe Danny will reveal
some of his household secrets as he assumes his role as our Honorary Mr. Mom.
Congratulates, Danny Kramer!
